Insect Fantasy Flying Ship Compatible with DnD Spelljammer

This is a miniature of an airship shaped like an insect. Its design is inspired by insect ships from DnD Spelljammer such as the wasp and damselfly. It can be used for a Spelljammer game or another tabletop game with airships.

These files come with a deck plan diagram of the ship’s interior marked out with a 5 foot square grid. You can see the diagram among the images of the model on this page. This diagram is intended to be a resource to facilitate the use of this model in a tabletop role playing game.

This model is at a scale of 1:600. This is the same scale as the Spelljammer ship models made by Wizkids. It is about 2.5 inches (64mm) long and has a wingspan of 2.25 inches (57mm). The base is 2 inches (50mm) in diameter.

This model can be printed in multiple FDM friendly pieces. Pre-supported pieces are available for resin printing. There is also a single piece version included. The base is always a separate piece even in the single piece version.

I recommend printing with a nozzle no larger than 0.4mm at a layer height of 0.1mm.

Set the support overhang angle to 60 degrees to prevent the generation of unnecessary supports. You may also need to manually tell your slicer to support the edge of the wings. There is a stl include that is designed to help tell your slicer where these additional supports are needed. There is also a set of instructions for how to do this in Cura. It’s not difficult but there are several steps involved.
