Jaylah - Staff - Star Trek Beyond

In time, Jaylah became a formidable warrior, skilled in martial arts and in wielding a quarterstaff that doubled as a rifle. (Star Trek Beyond)

This model is an extendable staff of Jaylah. The large pole does not have to be 3D printed and a standard 3/4 inch pipe can be used (26.67mm). There is a mechanism which allows the parts to lock in place in the shortest and longest position. Depending on the quality of the print it made need a bit of tweaking on order to work properly. Inside the control panel is enough space for electronics. The buttons are also separate so they can be made into working buttons.

Files contain pieces of the staff ready to be 3D printed and a file where the parts are aligned so that you know where to place them after you print them.

SCALE
At 100% scale when the staff is extended it is 1326 mm long, when retracted it is 945 mm. None of the parts exceed 200 mm (except for the pole which can be switched out for a 3/4 inch (26.67mm) pipe.

3D printing settings

The staff is quite big, it is meant to be post-processed. We recommend a layer height of 0.1 to 0.3 mm on FDM printers. All parts are aligned to the printing platform for easy manipulation. Most of the parts need minimal or no use of printing supports to save printing time and filament. For reliable printing, we also recommend setting a brim to the thinner parts, because of their height and low thickness. It will ensure, that the parts will not come off the printing platform during the printing process. Printing settings will vary greatly depending on your specific printer.
