3D model description
The Nephillaxii were once commonplace upon the battlefield back in the days of the Old Mechanicum, soaring the skies in vast flocks supporting their larger Vultarax cousin-machines and delivering death to all who opposed the Machine God.
Now it is rare indeed to see one of the Nephillaxii within the arsenal of the contemporary Adeptus Mechanicus - like many glorious craftings of centuries gone the Ad Mech have either forgotten how to create them or, as seems to be the case with the Nephillaxii, have been forbidden outright.
Clad in thick frontal ceramite armour plating, powered by complex plasma generators, protected by a small flare shield, propelled by a contra-grav unit and a quartet of fast-response jet turbines, and commonly wielding a wide array of ranged and close combat weaponry, the Nephillaxii are fearsome foes indeed.
Exactly how these ancient creations of the Legio Cybernetica are controlled and how much autonomy and free will they possess is unclear as it is unknown whether there is anything biological at all housed within the Nephillaxii bodywork. Like many of the Legio's creations, the aftermath of the Horus Heresy appears to have seen use of the Nephillaxii prohibited.
In these dark times of the 42nd Millennium perhaps it is time for the Fabricator General to review and perhaps rescind these prohibitions and let the Nephillaxii take to the skies once again to enforce the Machine God's will.
Ok so here's another release. I like the old 30k Mechanicum style a lot more than the 40k Mechanicus style. I also like kitbashing units which the Mechanicum/Mechanicus SHOULD have but don't because James doesn't give the faction the love and attention it deserves.
I envision these as an elite flying unit on the battlefield, perhaps heavy security patrols in Forge Temple complexes. I've finally started reading through all the Horus Heresy novels after years of procrasturbation and read a bit recently with Nathaniel Garro and some lady whose name I forget trying to escape some Mechanicum security drones and that inspired these.
Game-wise, I figure these as a Pteraxii proxy perhaps? They're about the same size as a regular Skit and with the turbines they're probably close to the right width for the Pteraxii wingspan. I've provided a quick 40mm flying base to that end anyway. There's a flamer which could be the phosphor torch, a stubber which could be the flechette carbine, and a couple of close combat weapons as the talons. There's also a few other weapon options - arc rifle, plasma, volkite, gravgun, hellgun/hotshot lasgun - and a few heavy weapon options - arc, lascannon, plasma cannon, phosphor rotor, and a volkite cannon thingy.
As for the turbines, there's complete units which connect to the main body with a little ball joint so they can be rotated and posed, but I've also provided the mount and jet as separate components for extra posability options if you want.
