#XMASCULTS
Hey Everyone,
I'm super excited to finally get this Gift Box Mimic out for the Holiday season. I know we're cutting it close to the holidays, and this little guy is chomping at the bit to give you and your friends a holiday surprise.
New Revision
Update 1 - 12/23/2022
A very kind person let me know that these models were throwing an error in Cura slicer. While the old files seemed to work in Prusaslicer, I've added two new models that fix the issue in Cura. They are _NoHangerWindow_CuraEdit and _WithHangerWindow_CuraEdit.
Update 2 - 12/24/2022
I've added a standalone stl of the top jaw that you can print in case the mechanism breaks on smaller/resin prints.
Update 3 - 2/20/2023
I've added an updated version with a new eye design.
I have several structural updates in the works, but I've been sitting on the new eyes for about a month and a half. I figured I should just release them while I work on the rest.
I've received additional feedback that resin may be too brittle to consistently lock in the top jaw without error. Please let me know if you try this on resin so I can adjust the design for better print quality moving forward.
Thank you to everyone who has given me feedback so far! Please let me know if you encounter any issues with this print OR if you have any other feedback or recommendations. I want to do my best to delight you with these designs.
Directions:
The core model is entirely print-in-place with no supports. His top jaw prints upside down in contact with the print bed inside of the model. To lock his teeth into place:
1. Turn the model upside down
2. Tap the underside of the model to send his teeth down the alignment rail
3. Use your finger or a pen to reach behind his eyes and push his jaw into place until it clicks
4. Adjust as desired/necessary
Please refer to the example gif for details and let me know if you have any trouble.
Variations/Files:
When you download the files, you'll find that this Mimic comes in two main variations:
1. With Hanger Window: When you open this model, you'll find a cutout on the back side of it. This cutout can be fitted with "Hanger2" and used as a Christmas tree decoration. At 100% scale, there should even be room for you to fit a Christmas light in the back (see example images)
2. No Hanger Window: This version does not have the cutout on the back side, however it's easier to print because it has more material stabilizing its internal structures. You can clip Hanger1 onto the back of the outer box if you would like to hang this version.
