Would it nice to be able to print your own awards for an occasion? That is exactly what our Customizable Medal Awards model achieves. The medal is a customizable openscad file. There are 3 files that allow you to create medals that have 1,3 or 5 lines using any fonts you have on your computer. The medal is composed of 4 parts, the medal, left and right ribbons and screw. By printing them separately they can all be printed in different colors. The screw allows you to fasten the ribbons into the medal. We designed the screw so that you can attach it to the medal with your hand. We experimented with three medal sizes based on the medal provided in the openscad file.

The model provided is the small one in the photos. The middle size model is the same model scaled to print at 150%. The largest model is the same model scaled to print at 200%. We tested these three sizes to make sure that all the parts will fit together properly when the model is scaled to your needs. In addition, we added a hole on the back to the model.

The hole on the upper rear of the model allows you to hang the medal on a wall. This would great to display the award. Whether this is a school, sports, rating, company, humor achievement, the award can be proudly displayed at the size you want for all to see. Some of our photos were taken with the medals on the wall.

To use this project you must have openscad. Make sure all the openscad (.scad) files are in the same folder. The medal file can be edited for the fonts, sizes of the fonts and the positioning of the fonts. There are comments in the medal so you know where and what to edit to customize the medal to your needs. Without the ability to customize the medal, this would be just another printable award of which there are many.

Once you make the changes to the openscad file you can preview, render and export your .stl file. Then you can scale each part the same and print on your 3-d printer. You really don’t need to know openscad to any great degree.

Ideas:

Many awards use two or three colors. We like using blues, reds and multicolor filaments. In addition you can print the models in white and paint them. This allows you to paint the letters, have multiple colors on the medal and perhaps paint something on the ribbons. You have incredible flexibility here. You can create a beautiful award for anyone!

If you have some openscad skills you can take the award to the next level! You can create a module that includes your school, company, club, organization logo or emblem and add that to the medal! Then you can add this module within the difference function in the medal if you want to embed the design. You can also add your logo raised on top of the medal so it will protrude outward. This will make a very professional looking award that will look amazing!!!

15% infill for the ribbons and no supports
100% infill for the screw and no supports
