This helicopter was first used for military purposes in 1959 and went into production in 1962 under the designation UH-1 (Utility Helicopter-1) and the nickname Iroquois (after the Iroquois people), but is widely known as the Huey, and the twin-engined Bell UH-1N Iroquois as the Twin Huey. It is one of the most successful helicopters in history, with over 16,000 produced in total.1 It is famous for its involvement in the Vietnam War, in which around 7,000 were used.2 The Huey was widely exported around the world and remains in service with many military forces, including the United States Marine Corps.
