3D model description
A friend of mine made a music stand in wood shop years ago. We were both in the high school marching band. I talked to him recently and I decided to make one 3D printable. This is the only full size 3D printable music stand that I could find so I guess this is a first. The stand is adjustable from about 27 inches to about 54 inches in height. The music tray is adjustable 90 degrees in 6 15 degree increments.
I have not printed any of this yet, but I wanted to go ahead and put this out. If you go ahead and print this please check for tolerances and let me know if there are any issues. This version is all American measurement system units for the hardware. I will release a second version with metric hardware after I print this one and work out any issues.
I have made the sizes of the models so this can be printed on smaller printers such as an Ender 3. If you have a newer printer such as an Ender 3 V3 Plus you can print all the parts a lot faster. All models were created using FreeCAD. The models are not arranged in any specific orientation. Use good jugement or something like the Cura auto orientation plugin.
This is a large project and it will take a lot of filament to print this. It's up to you, but I would print with at lease 5 walls and 20-50 percent cubic infill. Assembly is basically from the bottom to the top. I have made a hardware list and included it in the files. Some parts will need to be glued together. If you use PLA Plus I suggest using SCIGRIP 16 for the glue.
** Assembly Steps: **
- Install the legs to the base. There are two scews that go into the legs from inside the base.
- Assemble the main pole sections together. These will need to be glued and there are 3D printable dowels to line everything up.
- Attach the main pole to the base. Attach the collar to the top of the pole if you haven't already and insert the thumb screw. The thumb screw goes together with a 3/8 by 2 inch carriage bolt.
- Assemble the upper pole sections. These will go together with a 25 inch 3/8 allthread and there are 3D printable alignment keys for each section. The sections can also be glued together, but the allthread will be used to attach the top part. insert the upper pole into the lower pole and screw in the thumb screw all the way to hold it in place.
- Attach the lower mount to the allthread from the upper pole section. There is a 3D printed spacer to go between the top of the pole and the lower mount.
- Attach the music stand adapter to the upper mount. This will need to be glued and screwed to ensure it is well secured.
- Attach the upper mount to the lower mount through the pivot point hole (top hole). I suggest using a piece of the allthread. There is also a 3D printed spacer for this part. Make sure the upper mount adapter faces towards the front of the stand. Put a quick release pin into the angle adjustment holes to keep it in place.
The stand music tray has tongue and groove joints and to keep the music tray aligned it also has some small dowels.
- Assemble the music tray with glue (complete this ahead of time and give the glue time to cure) and attach it to the upper mount.
