8040 Propeller Optimized for Printing, V1.0

3D model description

This is a redesign for an 8040 printable propeller with a 5.5mm (13/64") bore.

This prop was designed to keep the minimum cross section above .8mm allowing it to be more easily printed, though at a small efficiency loss.

The propeller will require support on one edge, which makes it very easy to remove.

I can redesign this for some different center hole diameters if requested, just give me some time as I am pretty busy.

Here is a short video with the prop on a motor:
I will also be uploading a 5030 prop once it is flight tested.

I printed mine on a Fablicator using Kisslicer.

3D printing settings

I suggest using 2-3 shells, 100% fill, and a layer thickness no larger than .2mm (I used .17mm with excellent results.) I also used an extrusion width of .4mm

The propeller will need support material enabled.

I highly encourage printing this from PLA, since the thermal contraction of ABS will often warp/crack the blades.

Once printed, remove the support, ream the hole to 13/64", and sand the edges a bit to remove any leftover support or jagged edges.

I've spun this up on a 1300KV hextronic 24g brushless outrunner with a 2S lipo and it puts out some pretty impressive thrust. The propeller feels every bit as strong and durable as a bought one (Though I have not crashed it yet)

I've uploaded a few different orientations as well as CW/CCW Pairs for easy printing.
