I began exploring 3D design in 2003/2004, starting with GMax and Flight Simulator 2004. After months of frustration, trial, and error, I finally figured out the program and began creating simple objects. My journey continued with Autodesk 3DS Max, which offered a more advanced feature set.
In 2004, I discovered the virtual world of Second Life. Despite my efforts, I couldn't quite grasp 3D creation there as I did with GMax or 3DS Max. However, in 2010, Second Life introduced mesh capabilities, allowing me to use 3DS Max to create objects and import them into the virtual grid. That's when Design Creations came to life. Alongside my wife, Nikki, we delved into a creative frenzy, designing houses, furniture, architectural features, and more. We transitioned from Second Life to InWorldz and even experimented with our own grid, but eventually, our interest waned amidst increasing drama in the virtual worlds.
We took a break from the virtual scene until 2020, the year of COVID, when a fortunate opportunity allowed us to revive Design Creations. We converted our garage into a workshop/den, equipped with tools, a GlowForge, a 3D printer, and a small CNC machine, and immersed ourselves in creation.
Since then, Iโve been refining my 3D printing skills, brushing up on 3D modeling, and learning about laser engraving, etching, and cutting. The CNC machine remains a challenging but exciting endeavor.
Currently, I mostly download and modify designs, creating remixes as I practice with my printers. I also dabble in a few original designs. My specialty lies in non-organic, geometric items such as architectural pieces and building blocks. Occasionally, on a particularly good day, I might venture into more fluid designs, but let's leave the specifics of my inspiration for those days to the imagination.
