The Smith & Wesson Schofield is one of the most recognizable top-break revolvers of the American frontier era. Designed by Major George W. Schofield as an improvement to the Smith & Wesson No. 3, it was adopted by the U.S. Army and became known for its fast reloading system and practical military features.

Chambered in .45 Schofield, the revolver utilizes a hinged top-break action that simultaneously ejects all spent cartridges when opened. This innovative mechanism allowed for significantly faster reloading compared to many contemporary revolvers and remains one of the defining features of the design.

I based this model on historical reference material and surviving examples of the Schofield revolver. Particular attention was given to accurately recreating the distinctive top-break mechanism, extractor system, and internal components while maintaining a practical assembly experience for 3D printing enthusiasts.

For assembly guidance, even if it’s not included here, you can still follow the available tutorial videos from World of Guns on YouTube, which demonstrate the disassembly and assembly process of similar real firearms.

Notes:

For best results, always exclude screw threads using the support painting feature. Removing supports from threaded areas can be difficult, especially on small diameters. Additionally, orient detailed parts along the Z-axis for cleaner results and easier post-processing.
