Apollo was an American three-seat manned spacecraft of the Apollo series, which completed the first international spaceflight, docking with the Soviet spacecraft Soyuz 19. The launch (NSSDC ID 1975-066A) took place on July 15, 1975, as part of the Apollo-Soyuz Test Flight Project (ASTP). It was the fifteenth manned flight in the Apollo series.[2] The flight utilized a specially modified near-Earth version (without the lunar module) of the Apollo series, featuring a docking-airlock transfer compartment with the APAS-75 androgynous peripheral docking unit, which has not been used on other flights before or since.

With the end of the spacecraft's flight on July 24, 1975, the Apollo program also ended, and for nearly six years, until the first flight of the Space Shuttle on April 12, 1981, the Soviet Union had a monopoly on manned spaceflight.
