Vielen Dank

I just bought this Stormtrooper helmet and so far, is great. But somehow, I bought it or got charged two times for the file. Is there a way to correct this?

Hello David, sorry it took me so long to see I wasn't visiting the website regularly since it has been a long time I last updated. I will check it out and come back to you asap. Also try talking to the Cults ADMs I believe they can reverse/correct any issue with payments.

Yes I checked it out and it seems you bought it twice, also it seems it was refunded. If you still are having problems with that or any other issue with the model please let me know ! Thanks.

Yes I was. Thank you for replying. I feel the model is great. It is large. Not sure... but do you think it would hold together with magnets?

Yes these magnets are very strong. You don't need to use magnets in all cuts, you can glue some and just leave some parts that can be disassembled with magnets for fitting/storing purposes. If you can print the bigger version (less cuts), it is better (more solid). The original design was meant to just be glued together, with the minimum possible number of cuts, but I also made these extra versions with magnets and smaller pieces following the feedback I received !

I dont normally write negative comments but i want you as the creator to get to know the perspective of a client that bought your product.

So i bought the Stormtrooper Helmet. I have to add that i made the mistake and didnt look at how many files are provided in your description before and therefor was surprised when i downloaded and looked at the files.

Here is what i expected:
All of the parts saved as a seperate .stl file being print ready for any slicer software. Also the complete helmet saved in a seperate file, not for printing but for previewing it in the slicer software. So you just have to drag and drop them into your Slicer Software of choice.

Here is what i got instead:
2 Files. An OBJ File and a Blender File. The OBJ file could not be imported to OrcaSlicer because the file itself contains Ngons, etc.
The Blend file is nice to have if you want to make adjustments to the quad topology(some have booleans cutouts).
Also some of the objects have a rather low vertice count. Meaning that in Blender it might look smooth and round, but when you import it into a slicer with no normal smoothing (blender shade smooth) you can see the quads on the finished print on round surfaces like for example the top of the helmet.

So in order to print the helmet i had to export all the files from Blender as an STL file. Luckily i had the knowledge on how to do that and also how to to it with the correct real world sizes.

As a creator that wants to sell a 3D printing file, on a 3D Printing Marketplace, you make the experience with your product really bad.
As the buyer I had to take a good amount of additional steps in order to even be able to inport these files into my Slicer Software.

Please provide the seperate .stl files in your Files. You may also wanna go over some of the very round shaped parts in blender and add additional edge loops for more details. Id say 1-3 more levels of subdivision are plenty but dont destroy the edges of your parts in the process.
You already have a very good presentation of your Model here on Cults, but please think about taking these extra steps.

Hello and thanks for the feedback ! Yes I am still fairly new to this website, and I don`t have a 3D printer so I was not aware of these things you pointed out, since I just model it in 3D. I am working right now on this helmet to make it smaller for smaller prints, so I will also adjust to the things you pointed out and update the model, with additional geometry to make it smoother for 3D printing, as a 3D modeler we always try to keep things as low as possible but for this I will do the opposite. I will also export all the files separately to make it easier for you guys. Sorry that you had to go through all this trouble and thanks again for the feedback , I will keep these things in mind in the future, please wait some days till I release the new updated version !

Hello ! I made all the changes you suggested and updated the model, I had to re apply subd from the beginning since if I just applied it on top of the model it would lose edges as you mentioned, so I re-did all the boolean operations on top of the new mesh and also exported the pieces separately with the same name as in the images, please check them out, any other tip you have do let me know so I can improve it further, thanks !

Hey first of all, thank you for implementing all of the changes and ideas that quickly.

Some things that might be good to know for you:

  • When you create parts that will be joined together like the stormtrooper helmet, you want to make the connection piece slighty smaller like 0.4mm or so (like a pin or tube or something that goes into a hole). The tolerances from a 3D Modeling Software(Vertices right next to each other in 3D space) are too tight for a 3D printer to print it out in the real world. Otherwise you have to sand down those connections in order to get the correct fit and it just adds time. Youtube Videos might be helpful to get a visual understanding of this.

  • You might wanna think about using small (like 4-8mm) round magnets(can be glued into a small modeled socket in your part) when you want to take it apart. With Magnets its easier than relying on your Material to ensure a good connection when it will often be taken apart and reasembled. Without Magnets these connections might become loose after some time of repeated disassembly and reassembly. These Magnets should be very easily available for everybody that buys your files. Just dont forget to write this down in your product description :D

  • Think about how people are gonna use your finished product. Think about how they are going to wear it, Does it need to be dissambled or taken apart for shootings, Conventions, etc. What problems would a real person might have with it in different scenarios? Of course it will never be perfect for everthing, but it helps looking at it from different people's perspective, maybe ask cosplayers, etc. that you know what they think about it.

  • You could watch Tutorials on Youtube on how to create files for 3D printing, there is a lot of information out there on what is important for a 3D Print like the file itself but also printer and Slicer Software Settings. You dont know what you dont know, so these videos can help giving you another perspective on problems you might encounter.

  • Also, you might want to get a 3D printer yourself. It often helps printing your files yourself and see if anything needs to be changed in order to make it better or easier to use. If your product fixes problems(Parts can be printed seperatly in different colors on a printer that could only print 1 color at a time instead of using paint, Easy of use when taking it apart, Convenience, etc.), customers are more likely to buy it and spend more money on it.
Id rather pay 20 Bucks for a Good Product than paying like 3 Bucks for something where i have to invest a good amount of time to fix all the problems i might have with it.

Also here are some Modifications that i am gonna do:
Since my girlfriend doesnt want the helmet being to big for her body, we scaled it down. Because of this we need to take apart part of the helmet in order for her to wear it since the opening hole would be too small at the bottom to fit her head through it when the helmet is fully assembled.

For Example i am planning to glue Part A + left and ride side of Part B and D1 together and just remove it when she puts it on and add it again when her head is inside the helmet.
In Order for that to work im gonna remove the little connection piece of Part E that connects to part B and the Connection Piece of D that connects to B.
I might also have to remove the upper portion of D-1 when it gets stuck on D, but i have to test that out.
I dont know if that is going to work, but thats my plan for now :D

Hi, thanks so much for the info ! I updated the helmet and I thought it would work much better with magnets, so it can be disassembled and made easier to fit in smaller spaces if needed, while also being a good option to hold them together when built up, so I adapted the model to that. Yes, there is a lot of stuff I still need to learn on the printing side, I'm looking into getting one printer for myself, I downloaded Prusa to study the Slicer options like adding support trees, do you think I should provide the STL parts with them added ? Anyway, please use this new version of the model (if you haven`t printed it yet) as it has more dense poly count and has some improvements to the shape of the mesh, and also should make it easier to use the way you mentioned for your girlfriend ! Also, if you have more feedback on the helmet, do let me know :)

Absolutely I can do that. I’m used to having to compromise and sand/ glue paint objects too big for my printer :)

Alright its a deal ! I`ll make it smaller, it just might take some time cause its not my main thing I am doing this on my spare time like a side thing so, as soon as I finish I will send you, like in a week or two max !

Wil it still be a size I can fit in my head? As I want to print it as wearable :)

Yes bro it will be the same final size, just the pieces are gonna be cut smaller. I will finish it today, working on it rn. Yo hit me up on my email, so I can send you the file and also for you to send me the pics later ! fer100marco@gmail.com

Im looking at your Storm trooper mask. I have an Elegoo Mars 4 Ultra with a build plate size of 160 x 95.6 mm. This corresponds to a build volume of 153.36 x 77.76 x 165 mm. Woudl you be able to slice it and convert into a STL file so I could print to lifesize scale as you have designed?

Hello ! So you mean you need the pieces to fit into a 150x70x165 space ? Yes I can slice it up more, also I`d like to propose a trade, what about I send you the file for free, and then I will just ask you to send me pictures of the 3D printed model ? Those would really help me, and I don't have a 3D printer since I am just a 3D modeler, we could do that ! Anyway I will try to slice it up more, also do you think its ok to slice it like the frontal face piece in half ? Meaning are you able to join them together later and sand it up till it looks seamless ? If so then it will be easy to slice, cuz I tried to keep all the seams hidden in the model bcuz of that. Anyway, let me know !
