Hello!
I got tired of stacking dishes on top of each other in a single pile - it’s a nightmare whenever you want to grab the largest ones, which usually end up at the very bottom.
So, I designed what I believe is the perfect solution: a modular dish rack that is fully customizable, allowing its length to be adjusted to fit your kitchen drawers.
The design is based on 15 mm diameter beech wood dowels. . Due to the hardware used, scaling the models is not recommended.
Bill of Materials:
- 4x ø5×16 wood screw,
- 2x beech wood dowel - length as required (I used two 455 mm sections because that size fit my drawer. As a general rule, measure your available space and subtract 11 - 12 mm from the result. Both bases are 5 mm thick, and the additional millimeter ensures enough clearance to install the rack in the drawer),
Assembly instructions:
- Print 03-00-30-001-RACK BASE, L and 03-00-30-002-RACK BASE, R. The files are prepared so that models requiring supports or a brim do not need any modification. Most parts do not require supports; if they are not present in the provided files, they are not needed.
- Print as many separators as you need; I have prepared 4 sizes that cover most of regular plates,
• 03-00-30-004-SEPARATOR 2, 25mm – thick plates,
• 03-00-30-003-SEPARATOR 1, 20mm – regular plates,
• 03-00-30-005-SEPARATOR 3, 15mm – thin plates; dessert plates,
• 03-00-30-006-SEPARATOR 4, 30mm – deep plates; soup plates,
- Prepare 15 mm diameter beech dowels. I used 455 mm long sections. My dowels are straight, with a diameter tolerance of ±0.1 mm – the more precise the dowels, the better.
- Slide 3-00-30-001-RACK BASE, L and 03-00-30-002-RACK BASE, R onto the dowels, then drill ø 3 mm holes approximately 20 mm deep into the ends of the dowels. To ensure concentric holes, you can use the holes in the mounted parts as a guide.
- Place the dowels with one of the rack bases on a flat surface, then fasten them using 2x ø 5x16 mm wood screws.
- Install all desired separators,
- Place the opposite rack base onto the dowels and then fasten it using 2x ø5x16 mm wood screws.
Done!
