Hip Bone (Part of the Pelvic Girdle): While technically part of the pelvis, the hip bone forms the socket (acetabulum) where the femur articulates. It's comprised of three fused bones:
Ilium: The large, flared upper portion.
Ischium: The lower, posterior portion.
Pubis: The lower, anterior portion.
Femur: The thigh bone, the longest and strongest bone in the body. It extends from the hip to the knee.
Patella: The kneecap, a sesamoid bone that protects the knee joint and improves the leverage of the quadriceps muscle.
Tibia: The shinbone, the larger of the two lower leg bones. It bears most of the weight.
Fibula: The smaller of the two lower leg bones, located on the lateral side of the tibia.
Tarsals: The seven bones that make up the ankle and the posterior part of the foot. They include:
Talus: The bone that articulates with the tibia and fibula to form the ankle joint.
Calcaneus: The heel bone, the largest tarsal bone.
Navicular, Cuboid, and three Cuneiform bones (medial, intermediate, and lateral).
Metatarsals: The five long bones that form the arch of the foot. They connect the tarsals to the phalanges.
Phalanges: The bones of the toes.
