v1.2 Update:
• Added a Kadee and aristrocraft Body coupler mount. You will need to use a drill and 2 more #4 x 3/8th screws to mount them.
• I scaled the cars up by 8% to be closer to their correct size. I couldn't scale it up higher without redesigning the parts to fit on the build plate differently. They are within 1-2% of the correct size now. If you have a larger build plate you can scale them up that additional 1 or 2% and they should be perfect.
V1.1 Changelog. Fixed mesh error in frame.
This is a series of 4 X31 cars that I am releasing. If you are interested in all 4 car I will be putting up a bulk pack of all the cars for a reduced price as these cars share a lot of the same files. I will also be designing 2 more versions of this car at a future date.
Decals are from K4decals.com I originally used his X29 and x32 series and mix and matched but he recently released K11 and X31 specific decals for these cars.
General History:
In the middle of the depression in 1934, the Pennsylvania began a massive car building program in it’s Altoona, PA shops. The round roof design was adopted to achieve the maximum cubic foot capacity loading and still clear tunnel restrictions, and the X31 series became their new and distinctive standard box car. Two basic roofs were adopted - one flush to the sides and the other with a 2” setback at the top of the roof. Cars were both 40‘ in length and came with either single or double doors with 6' and 12’-1-1/2” or 14‘-6” openings respectively. During one period between March and April 1936, many of these cars were contracted out between builders AC&F, BSC, GATC, GSC and PSC. In 1939 and through 1940, the PRR muddied the roofs of 690, 40’ double-door cars with a distinctive extended roof to accommodate jeep shipments. These were designated as X31F and classified XAR.

I originally made this model for Trainz Railroad Simulator 2006 I have since rebuild it for the game Derail Valley but the game has temporally stopped supporting new rolling stock. So I rebuilt the car again to be 3d Printable. So the Train car I originally design about 20 years ago is now a physical model I can hold in my hands. I find the so fascinating about 3d printing.
This is my first publicly released 3d printable model. Any suggestions to improve future creations would be apricated. Funding from this goes to purchasing more materials for future projects and cars. Winter is a slow period for me and I don't make much money at my normal 9-5 job on a tourist Railroad.
Additional Parts List (I've included amazon links in a MS word document in the zip file)
• #4x3/8" Phillips Pan Head Screw (12x)
• #4 x 1/4" Phillips Pan Head Screws (20xOptional Can use glue to replace and would recommend glue in most places)
• 1/4 Inch x 1.57 Inch Shelves Dowel Pin (2x per car. You can also print a replacement to save money)
• Aluminum Brite Window Screen (K11 Livestock car only)
• 4mm OD, 10mm Length Compression Springs (8X can choose a longer spring for a stiffer suspension)
• Your Choice of wheels (4X per car)
• Your Choice in couplers. (2x per car)
Note: I designed This car to use Artistocraft Style Couplers. Anything designed to work with Artistrocraft cars should work fine on the truck mount. If you want Kadee couplers you are going to need to design and print an adaptor for my car. I would provide that but I don't use or have Kadee couplers at home so I have no way to design and test that part.
Printable Trucks are included in the file.
