If each person took an integrated heart as their advisor, who would be without a teacher? Whether knowledgeable and logical or uneducated and foolish, no one would be stranded without guidance.

Yet if we have incomplete hearts, we are error-prone. We'll be like someone who says, "I went to Yue today and arrived yesterday." We'll take what is unreal as real. To take the unreal for the real--why, even the supernatural Yu the Great could not comprehend that, so how could I?

Words are not just foul blowing. Words have meaning. But if speech is uncertain, how will it make sense? How can speakers really know true speech? They think that their words are extraordinary, when they sound more like chirping chicks. What eloquence or reason could they have?

How can Tao be so secret that we should speak of true and false? How can speech be so obscure that we should speak of right and wrong? Where can we go where the Tao is not found? What can we eliminate as impossible?

Tao is obscured by small comprehension. Speech is obscured by glorious and flowery words. For example, we have the arguments between the Confucians and the Mohists. One side says yes, while the other says no; one side says no, while the other side says yes. Wanting to state what is means something else is-not; wanting to state what-is-not means something is. Only avoiding this leads to enlightenment.
The noble one knows that learning that is not intact and not pure is insufficient to be beautiful. So they review by repeating and counting, ponder thoroughly, settle it in their very being, and eliminate anything harmful in order to sustain and nourish beauty.

If the eyes have no desire to look at what isn't right, if the ears have no desire to hear what isn't right, if the mouth have no desire to speak of what isn't right, and if the heart have no desire to worry about what isn't right, then one reaches the level of excellence.

Then the eyes are excellent in the five colors. The ears are excellent in the five tones. The mouth is excellent in the five flavors. The heart has the benefit of all under heaven.

As a result, neither power nor gain will disturb the noble one. The crowd will not shift them and nothing in the world will shake them. They live by this. They die by this. This is called holding virtue.

Holding virtue leads to being fixed. Being fixed leads to doing-as-one-should. Being fixed and doing-as-one-should is called being a complete person. Heaven will see their brilliance. Earth will see their light. The noble one values completeness.
