The 3D printed ring that doubles as a subway ticket

Two young entrepreneurs from Boston's MIT are currently trying to raise money on Kickstarter to finance their Sesame Ring project. Their idea stems from a frustration: their ticket is always lost at the bottom of their bag when they use it. To remedy this situation, they came up with a new form, easier to find and more convenient to use: a 3D printed ring. This object is 3D printed, which makes it fully customizable. The ring is printed around a microchip, so all you have to do is place it on the scanner to trigger the opening of the gate. The Boston transit company is already implementing this system, but the creators intend to generalize it to public transport worldwide. Another great idea that might never have seen the light of day without the help of the3D printer.
