3D Printing Designers Interview: Will from 3DBROOKLYN
1. Will, can you say a few words about yourself and your work?
I’m a designer based in Brooklyn, New York. I was introduced to 3D modeling because of my packaging design background, and soon after graduating bought myself a Cubify printer. It suddenly took off from there and I began making every item I felt like I wanted, and to this day I still make at least one new item a week for myself.
3. Which CAD software(s) do you use to make your designs?
I model using 3D System’s Cubify Design. I am self taught so I chose this program because it is made by the same company as my printer and I wanted to keep it simple, and found that it is perfect for me. It allows for precise designing and parametrics, which helps me a lot because many of my designs have very specific sizing.
4. What 3D printer have you got and what are your regular printing settings?
I started on the first generation Cube printer, and now use the Cube Pro and Cubes 2&3. I believe one of the reasons I was able to pick up 3D printing so quickly is because these printers don’t really allow print settings other than the presets, so I had nothing to fuss with and everything just works.
5. Finally, among all your great work, what is your favorite creation?
Almost every design represents some milestone or new thought of mine, but the most important to me is the Smokesnap. This was one of my first designs a few years ago, but it showed me that I could really make some useful products with my printer and led to the creation of my brand, 3DBROOKLYN.
