Space suits are certainly another impressive factor of human spaceflight, especially when they come out of the hangar in a slow motion walk. Considering the harsh environment of space, either for vehicular of extra vehicular activities (EVA), they are there as another layer of protection in our journey though space. Nobody would imagine though, that a space suit could look like something out of a science fiction, sleek, fancy and still functional. Well, the team at SpaceX decided to change that!
So here it is, the Starman Space Suit, inspired on the SpaceX space suit for the commercial crew. This model was made using the latest references from the first crewed mission to the ISS as well as new photos of the preparation for the next mission.
The model is separated with proper joints/keys and has a total of 12 parts (helmet, visor, torso, legs, boots, arms, gloves). The scale is 1/10, with 180 mm height in the original scale. It can be easily scaled up to larger scales such as 1/6 but no smaller scales than 1/10 are recommended when using a FDM printer. As for FDM printing configurations, it is recommended to use a nozzle of 0.4 or smaller as the details might not be visible with larger nozzles in its original scale. It can be printed using white and black/dark grey filament, so the finishing process is minimum remaining just some painting of details on the gloves, torso, and legs. You can even make your own decals of flags and patches to add to the model to give it some extra level of personalization.
Until Starman comes and meet us and blow our minds on a flyby back from his trip to Mars, you can watch the next crewed missions with this figure right next to you!
There’s a Starman waiting on your 3D printer!
