3D model description
The long awaited radial engine has arrived!
The next issue in my line of motor models, a demonstration model of a five piston radial motor. Please leave me some comments on improvements you would like to see!
It looks like a steam punk version of a Stark arc reactor! Hmmm...
3D printing settings
I have uploaded a complete model and individual components.
Scale to your hearts content...hint hint Replicator people!
Print all components with exception of pistons at 100% infill.
Use body components 2.0
Assemble pistons to rods with a hunk of filament or something else 3mm.
Attach piston rods to connector.
Prepare flywheel by inserting axle.
Mount assembly on fly wheel.
Then assemble body around piston/flywheel assembly starting with the body part to hold flywheel in place.
Secure each body segment with choice of adhesive, I use Krazy glue.
Radial 2.0 Now has a dial on the back to turn the mechanism easier!
New video at http://youtu.be/f4uudyJQ32s
New body parts 2.0 containing alignment ribs to ease assembly and stronger interface of parts
Connector and rods file has built in support
Longer drive shaft on the fly wheel
Better tolerances on the piston and rod assembly
Piston depression detail
Cap for rod assembly
Various filleted edges
Complete model now has pins holding pistons on (can't believe I missed that)
Two body files to scale as large as you can: A and B body piece types (be sure to scale the other components the same amount)
As shown in the pictures I printed the body without support and only had a couple loops. I was very surprised as the overhang is pretty extreme. I am going to print one separately and see if it turns out better.
Printing result update:
I added alignment ribs to the body components and they make assembly much easier, see the photos.
