Proteus Respirator
Designed for comfort and ease of use
This does not replace an approved medical grade mask

The goal of this was to design a mask that is easy to use, comfortable, and to create as little waste as possible. The only thing you should need to replace is the filter, which can be created from common household supplies (see below).

Sizing (Height-Width)
Please print the "Face_Size_Tester" and use the image supplied above to measure your face for the proper mask. This is to ensure the best seal as possible.
you will most likely need to glue fabric or foam inside the mask to seal it properly, printing the proper size for your face is very important as a first step.

Sizing numbers are "height/width".

Height is measured from the bottom of the chin to the middle of your nose.
Width is based on the distance between cheek bones.
The tool supplied will make this much easier.

PETG is most likely the best material and is generally the safest for use against the skin. ABS is difficult to print with but is also considered safe. You are the judge of this and there are resources online to find the best material for you.

To ensure that the filters are screwed in correctly you must ensure that your printer can print the screw joints. What I suggest is to print a Filter Holder and the Test_Vertical-Thread-Print to see if your horizontal expansion/xy compensation in your slicer is setup correctly. If the screw joints are too tight or will not screw together then you will have to adjust your settings and extrusion multiplier to get a proper fit.

Make sure that your layer height is set to around 0.2 or less so that the mask prints without possible holes. You are the judge of this and know your printer best.

Everything can be printed without supports. I designed this to be easy to print and also to fit on almost any common printer.

You can use whatever you would like but my suggestion is to use common hair elastics tied to string/rope. This way the straps will pull snug and stay snug to ensure the mask keeps it's seal around your face.

If you want to use only one side and plug the other you can print the plug and glue it onto the hole in the mask. Or print a Filter Holder and the Solid Cap for the same effect without glue.

Parts to Print
Mask, Filter Holder (start with the 10mm), Filter Spacer (start with 1.5), Filter Cap (your choice).
That is it and it's really easy!

This is the most important part and something that you will have to adjust and change to your liking.
It is important that you can breath easily, so the filter you use/create will need some ease of air flow.
The sizing is perfect for cotton pads (image above). I find that one is enough in my initial testing but my guess is that not all pads are the same. You can add more or just test with one to start.
Cutting fabric to fit is also a great option. Fabric that has tight threading will most likely work better than loose thread fabric.
