3D model description

I made this wheel for a 1/4 scale SiSt FW190 that a friend of mine is building. It can be scaled down for other sizes, off course. At this size the tire is designed to be a plug for making a silicone mould for casting rubber tires. Smaller versions can be printed from TPE and them carefully bonded together with a soldering iron along the seam.

Twelve M3x35 mm screws are needed to assemble each wheel. The center hole is 10 mm, and needs a 10x8 mm brass tube to work as a bearing surface.

If the wheel is scaled down to for example 1/5 scale, the bolts need to be M2.5x28 mm screws, and the center hole will be 8 mm.

3D printing settings

PLA.

Back: 0.2 mm layers, four outlines and 30% for a strong wheel. Support around the edge.
Front: 0.2 layers up to 13.6 mm height and then switch to 0.08 mm layers to achieve a good finish of the dished surface. Three outlines and 30% for strength. Support around the edge. If you are unable to change layer height then print the whole thing in 0.08 mm.
Making a good quality tire finish needs about 0.08 mm resolution.

The pictured wheel was printed on a Wanhao Duplicator i3 V1.

Hello, Thanks for posting the FW190 wheels! I am making a 4,5 size model. I have a lathe and milling machine, so I can make the central hub in aluminum, but your tyre is very interesting. I was thinking that maybe instead of printing the tyre in PLA, and making a mold in sylicon, to make after a new rubber tyre, why not making directly a PLA plug, in which I can insert rubber compound to make the tyre??? that is one step less. As you have the original file for the tyre, maybe it is easy to place it in a square box, and subtract the tyre, to make the plug. I would be very interested in trying if you would like to make it.
