I fiddled a bit with wobbling stabilizers but I got nowhere, so I said leadscrew it and bought myself a couple of 8mm screws and antibacklash nuts.
I've cobbled together X axis parts trying to make a simple, compact design but I still believe there's much room for progress... Anyway, everything can and should be tightened and the horizontal bars can be inserted from both sides.
IMPORTANT: In this model the distance between the leadscrew axis' center and the guiding rod's is 17 mm, while that between the two horizontal rods' axes is 46 mm.
EDIT 26/08/2017: Changed the pulley a bit and added a knob.
