I have been playing around with some geared case designs that are somewhat practical and a lot of fun to fidget with. The three-piece design features a geared hinge mechanism that keeps the parts moving smoothly in unison.
They incorporate a magnetic closure that keeps the contents secure. The micro SD card version can hold three cards and the other version has ~13 x 13 x 15 mm volume.
All of the pieces can be printed directly on the build plate and do not need support.
The items needed to assemble are:
(Qty. 2) 1 x 25 mm nails (or wire) used for hinge pins
(Qty. 4) 2 x 5 mm magnets used for closure
3D printing settings
For best results use as fine a layer height as possible (0.15 mm or lower).
No additional support is needed to print but be sure to orient the pieces on their flat sides (as shown).
For one case print two "outer" and one "base", for each of the "outer" pieces there are "w_tabs" options, where I added small support tabs under the overhanging gears. If you print with the tabs you will need to cut them away before assembly.
