This mount gives some freedom to your flexible shaft remote direct drive extruder.

It is designed for a NEMA 17 motor... Even if a NEMA 8 is likely sufficient to drive any remote direct drive extruder, the 17 is cheaper and makes the job.

The main goal of this setup is to reduce the lateral forces exerted by the shaft on the printer's head. This is important for delta printers which can't have a very high stiffness.

Allowing the motor to rotate makes it easy for the flexible shaft... It can freely take the best shape with the least curvature.

It means less stress on the shaft, less friction in the sheath, and a better overall performance.

With this mount, you can reduce the length of the shaft, that means less torsion and a more accurate extruder control.

Hardware is limited to a 608 ball bearing, 4xM2.5x10 screw and nuts to pinch the sheath and the coupling, 3x M3x12 + nuts for the bearing holder, and 1 M3x16 + nut + washer to secure the mount through the bearing with the spacer (the bolt must not protrude on the motor side).

Mount the coupling on the motor before screwing the motor on the mount.

There is enough room to tighten the coupling screws. just rotate the part to access the screws.

The support is designed to fit on a vertical part of the frame. This one has been designed for the 20x20 square profiles of my printer.

This is an ideal companion for the FLEXTRUDER2 line of filament extruders, but if you have a Zesty nimble or Flexdrive, it will also make the job.

3D printing settings

The motor mount must be printed with support.

A larger base has been already added to the coupling to increase the contact surface with the bed.

Even at 0.3 A the motor might reach 50°C, so use something more heat-resistant than PLA for this part... It will not break but it might swell.
