Finally I decided to modify my Airwolf3D HD printer to use E3D hotends (under 20 bucks vs 200 from Airwolf).
If you are going to buy a 3mm version of E3D extruder, you will only need:
The assembly is done using same M4 socket screws and nuts from the old hotend,... and the same fan screws.
Don't forget to install the fan that comes with E3D hotend and install it the way that it stays inside guides under the holder and a cap. I connected heatsink fan directly to a power supply 12v line, in order to keep it running all the time the printer is on.
I added a duct that goes from the fan on the top directly to the part you are printing (the feature I missed so much with the original hotend)
Also, the original extruder was kind of diffcult to uninstall from linear bearings and put it back again...(but it could run without nylon ties). This extruder base assembles freely on the bearings, but requieres nylon ties.
If you are going to buy a 1.75mm version of E3D extruder, you will also need:
Use same fasteners from the old mechanism.
The push-in joint connector that comes with a 4mm teflon tube has M6 thread. So, you will need to get a M6 nut, and a couple of washers: one for M6 (or 1/4") screw and one for M8 (or 5/16"). And once you will see the opening on the guide, you will figure out how the assembly goes.
Since the material pusher mechanism is completelly redesigned for 1.75mm version, it works wonderfully with flexible materials. The original one often jammed flexible filaments. So say goodbay to that problem
And as you can see in the photos, I used an old teflon tube just as a guide for a new tube and cables that seemed too flimsy to me (that explains nylon ties on the back). But it's not a must
I hope you´ll enjoy this updgade the way I did.
