3D model description
Prepare your template for the cactus pot. We are using a potato, but you can also try making the shape out of clay or soft wood.
Cut the potato in half.
Ensure you have a flat edge for the base.
Place the potato on its large flat side and cut facets into the edges. Remember, no undercuts and use draft angles.
Remove your cactus from its pot and keep it safe for later on.
Plug the hole of the cactus pot by sticking a small piece of tape on the bottom of the pot.
Peel the protective film from a Mayku Cast Sheet. Remember, you can put this into household recycling
Place the sheet in the FormBox, and start to heat the plastic.
Place the potato template on the centre of the FormBox bed, with the large flat side facing down.
When the plastic is ready, you will see ripples at the edges of the sheet and a droop in the middle.
Form the mold using the Mayku Cast Sheet.
Allow the mold to cool and gently pop the potato out.
Mix your concrete by adding water to the concrete powder.
Sit your potato mold you made earlier in a mug to keep it level.
Pour concrete into the mold until it is two thirds full.
Shake the mold to remove any air bubbles. You'll see them rise to the surface.
Sit the planter pot at the centre of the concrete to make a hole for your cactus to sit in.
Tape it down around the edges to keep it in place.
Leave to set for 48 hours in a cool, dry place.
Remove the tape and then twist and pull the pot to remove it from the concrete.
Pop the pot out of the mold by applying firm pressure to the top of the mold.
For a smooth surface on the top face, place a sheet of coarse sandpaper on the table, and rub the pot gently against it.
Place your cactus in your newly formed planter, and admire your handiwork!
Why not get creative and try painting the top side in your favourite colours?
