3D model description

UPDATE Apr 11th. 2021: Optimized version with base, now much smaller file size with good quality prints.

Update Jan 4th 2020: Corrected the freestanding version (V2) as the previous version had some bad geometry. Sorry!

Update Dec 11th 2019 - Happy Holidays! Today I'm adding a new freestanding version of this model, so if you've already purchased then make sure to download the new file! The new version can be seen in photo 2, and is the same adorable Quill but without the large base so she can go just about anywhere!

"Moss" by Polyarc is a memorable storybook Virtual Reality game in which you partner up with Quill, a tiny mouse with a big heart! From the moment I first high-fived her, I knew I had to create my own Quill model to keep me company at work.

This model is the result of several days work challenging myself to use only the free Sculptris Alpha 6 application and a mouse (no pun intended). Though I had originally planned on adding more detail to the ground, at some point the program becomes unstable and so this is as far as I could take it. I believe this can work in its favor however, as I plan on painting the model and adding fake plants to the base to create a small diorama.

Given the limitations of the software as well as the sculpting tools, I'm very happy with how this model turned out, and I am excited to share it with all of you!

3D printing settings

You can print this model with a 0.4mm nozzle and 0.2mm layers and it will look great, but for truly great results you'll want 0.1mm or smaller layers with a 0.2mm nozzle.

Gray photo is 3D Solutech Real Gray PLA using 0.2mm nozzle with 0.08mm layers, 15-24mm/s

White speckled Print photos were printed with Ziro brand "Marble" PLA with 0.16mm layers using a 0.4mm nozzle, 30-60mm/s

Supports are required. You may want to add some manual supports to the inside of the sword to help keep it straight.

Keep your print speeds realistic - 24mm/s or under highly recommended!
