A 3D printed PLA version of a wooden snail pull toy I made in shop class many years ago. After seeing a number of wonderfully designed wooden pull toys on the web (a few of which are also snail pull toys!) I was reminded of the flat, wooden, wobbly, poorly painted pull toys, including a snail pull toy, I built way back then. This 3D printed version is much better than what I was capable of making many years ago in wood, so I think I'll be "modernizing" a few more of my early woodworking pull toys.
Video of prototype is here: https://youtu.be/xz5HDgi2r7g.
All pieces are printed with the exception of the wide rubber bands used for traction and yarn used for pulling.
Designed using Sketchup Make 2015, and printed in PLA on a Makerbot Replicator 2 using Makerware 126.96.36.199 "Standard" Settings (.2mm layer height, 2 shells, 10% infill).
Study "Assembly.skp" or "Assembly.stl".
Print and assemble all pieces as shown in "Assembly.skp" or "Assembly.stl".
Test fit and trim, file, sand, etc. all parts as necessary for smooth movement of moving surfaces, and tight fit for non moving surfaces. Depending on the colors you chose and your printer settings, more or less trimming, filing and/or sanding will be required.
Place wide rubber bands around the circumference of each wheel for traction.
Slip the yarn through the hole in "Head.stl" down through the dome, tie a large not, secure it with glue, then pull the yarn back such that the knot is hidden within the dome.
Assemble as shown in "Assembly.skp" or "Assembly.stl".
After assembly of the wheels to the main axel, a small dot of thick cyanoacrylate is applied between "Wheel Section 1.stl" and "Axle Main.stl".
