3D model description
This neat printable gimbal prints already assembled on Replicator 2 printers at least, and optionally can have a ball bearing ball weight which clicks in to place, creating a fairly effective gravitovectometer (like an accelerometer, but only gives you a vector, not a rate, and yes, we did make up that word)
It's just a nice thing to have and to play with. You can hold a gimbal up and blow on it and the middle two parts will spin around crazy fast, with the center part stabilising very quickly at a 90° angle to it's parent like a gyroscope. It could potentially be a neat tool for explaining gimbal lock to people learning 3d graphics too.

3D printing settings
To print all as one piece, we used a Replicator 2 with the included clear makerbot brand PLA plastic. We printed using MakerWare and used the 'medium' profile, with the layer height set instead to 0.2 down from 0.27.
For the gravitovectometer, we used the 7mm ball version with regular metal ball bearings. The other sizes included have not been tested.
