3D model description
Meet Baburu, the bubble bot!
I loved the design for the Maker Faire Robot Action Figure and something just struck me where I had to open up my CAD software and see if I could create my own robot in this one piece style.
Here is that creation.
Note - I scaled included STL to 110% (see instructions for details)
Update - uploaded a lower poly model. The high poly count was causing chatter on the neck joint.
3D printing settings
He is pretty straightforward. I printed him with my usual settings I use for about everything(this is close to default settings) and sliced with Simplify3d. no support needed. Takes about 4 to 6 hours depending on settings.
I scaled the included STL up to 110% - he will print at 100 but I found i got better adhesion of the knee joint this way. The big gold print was 150% - he likes to fall over cause he is so heavy.
I have found that the biggest failure point I had was bed Tramming. If the bed was too far away things wouldn't stick, if it was too close, things started fusing together at the first layer. Plus I kept getting in too much of a hurry.
The clearance is .3mm for all parts except the neck, which is .5. It seemed to need a bit more clearance due to the way STL handles circles.
I usually print in PLA, but I did try some old ABS I had laying around and the robot with the mostly black background is an ABS print. The first layer got stuck together in a few places and I cut them loose with a razor, and after that he functioned just fine. He does have some less than fine finish in some of the overhangs, but I don't know if I had good settings or not so YMMV.
