3D model description

The Original ButterFlighter!

This is my design for a butterfly style lighter holder. My goal was to create a sleek pocketable accessory that ensures nobody steals your lighter.

I've been playing a lot of Valorant lately and I really like the balisong weapon skins. There was just something cool about watching them flip it around that made me want to print my own, so I did. Shortly after, I thought that you could make something that can conceal a lighter and have it act as an EDC piece that wouldn't get lost at the next session or sucked into the couch. After many iterations the files below are the final version. I want to make some design changes in the future to add versions like a bic mini, clipper, and zippo version.

The stls have the handles, pins, and end caps already in pairs of two, so you only need to print one of each file.

Print one of each of the files listed below:

  • x1 Holder Piece
  • x1 Handles
  • x1 End Caps and Pins

(I also included the pins and end caps as their own separate files just in case you want to print the pins by themselves, but in my experience there hasn't been an issue)

Quick and easy assembly:

Step 1 -- Place your lighter into the holder piece.

Step 2 -- Place the holder piece inside the handle pieces with the pegs on the outside.

Step 3 -- Align the holes of the handles with the holes of the holder and insert the pins to both sides.

Step 4 -- Take the end caps and put them on the opposite side.

Step 5 -- Use glue to attach the outside ends of the pins to the handle. Repeat on the side of the end caps

You can try to print the end caps a little smaller to fit more snug, but I've found that just gluing down the end cap is the best way to ensure that if you drop the butterflighter, nothing will break apart.

3D printing settings

I've printed these with PLA+ and Silk PLA and I use these settings on my Elegoo Neptune 2S

Bed Temp - 60
First Layer Nozzle temp - 210
Other Layers - 205

Infill - 20%

Layer Height - 0.2mm

Supports - I used PrusaSlicer's paint on supports to only get the underside of the pin that is on the handles. The holder piece needs to be printed with supports, and organic supports have worked well for me. Lastly, I print the end caps and pins on the same plate and use a 1mm raft to make sure they don't wiggle during prints.
