3D model description

Another mechanical box design to store dice or other small items. It has a unique opening and closing mechansim, where 7 gear rods are driven to rotate the top lid, which then tilts the doors open.

As the pictures show, there are two lid-types with different mechanisms included, they can also be exchanged easily, if you would like to try both 😉

Assembly is easy, since the parts snap-fit together, an assembly video for both lid-types is included in the download.
The box itself with its 7 gear rods is print in place and needs no assembly. You can cut some filament and thread it in the gear rods to create a nice looking color accent.
I recommend to use a little bit of lubrication like silicone oil for the turning parts, to get an extra smooth mechanism
If the gear rods are stuck after printing, use pliers to grab the top gear of the rod and slowly turn left/right to free the rod

UPDATE: i added some different styled boxes, such as a blank version, honeycomb pattern and a few others

3D printing settings

  • DEACTIVATE PRINTING THIN WALLS. This is for the gear rods to print clean.

  • i recommend to not go higher than a 0.3mm layer height- the parts already have the correct printing orientation, when loaded into the slicer

  • if you want to thread in different colored filament in the gear rods, i recommend using max 0.4mm nozzle, however you can try a bigger nozzle, i therefore indluded a testprint of one single gear rod.
