3D model description

This is my newest design of the geared box collection to store dice or other small items. The lid is opened/closed by a turn motion of the lower gear. The motion is transferred to the top by 8 gear rods, which lets the whole top part turn and simultaniously spin the 6 doors.

It might be a little overengineered for a box to store items, but it sure is an eyecatcher with its many visible turning parts and overall mechanical look ;-)

Assembly is easy, because the parts snap-fit together, an assembly video is included in the download.

Since the fit of the part depends on your printer, it may be required to glue some of the snapfitting parts together. CA-glue is best suited for that.

2023-08-29 UPDATE:
- added a V2 of the door gears, since some people reported, that they had a tendency to break fairly easily. They now consist of two parts, with seperate print orientations, which makes bad layer adheasion no longer a problem.

3D printing settings

  • Print orientation is already correct, when you load the stls into the slicer
  • Testparts were printed with 0.4mm nozzle, allthough up to 0.6mm should be fine
  • Dont go higher than 0.3mm layer height for details
  • Print at least 3 for most of the parts, for the gear rods i recommend 4 perimeters
  • Dual colored print in the pictures was achieved by swapping filament mid-print
  • Supports are only needed for the „Doors_6“. STL
  • I recommend using BRIM for the gear rods
