DE HAVILLAND COMET – THE WORLD’S FIRST JETLINER - 1:100

3D model description

The De Havilland DH 106 Comet was the world's first commercial jet airliner. Developed and manufactured by De Havilland at its Hatfield Aerodrome in Hertfordshire, United Kingdom, the Comet 1 prototype first flew in 1949. It featured an aerodynamically clean design with four De Havilland Ghost turbojet engines buried in the wing roots, a pressurised cabin, and large windows. For the era, it offered a relatively quiet, comfortable passenger cabin and was commercially promising at its debut in 1952.

The Comet 4 was a significant improvement over the original Comet 1, growing the fuselage by 5,99m and typically seating 74 to 81 passengers compared to the Comet 1's 36. The Comet 4 was considered the definitive series, having a longer range, higher cruising speed and higher maximum take-off weight. These improvements were possible largely because of its Rolls Royce Avon engines with twice the thrust of the Comet 1's Ghosts. Deliveries to BOAC began on 30 September 1958 with two 48-seat aircraft, which were used to initiate the first scheduled transatlantic services.

Model features:
- Windows, doors, flaps, ailerons, elevators, turbine blades and the rudder are all modelled.
- Completely snap-fit no glue required.
- Universal stand shared between all my models.
