I designed my own ergonomic 3D printed bottle opener.

I thought this could be one of my useful and cool 3D prints.

To open a bottle, there's a specific force needed to remove the cap from the bottle. The 3D printed part tends to break easily at some points.

I designed a bottle opener in the shape of a '6'. There are no sharp corners where your hand is on. The rounded shape is also very strong as opposed to right angles.
The opening for the coin has also some chamfers at one side to avoid right angles and make it stronger. Earlier designs breaked at that point while removing a cap from a bottle.

I used only 20% infill, but i printed it with 5 outline layers to create a strong object.

IMPORTANT: This bottle opener works with a (€0,20) coin with an outer diameter of ø22.20mm and a thickness of 2.1mm.

I also added the FreeCAD file(s), so you can alter the model. You have to download FreeCAD, it's free.

My PLA Simplify3D print settings:

  • 3600mm/minute (60mm/second)
  • hotend 185°C | bed 55°C
  • 250 micron | infill 20%
  • 3 top layers | 3 bottom layers | 5 outline layers
  • brass nozzle 0.35mm
  • extrusion width 0.44mm
  • retraction 1.00mm
  • extrusion multiplier 0.95
  • coasting 0.30mm
  • wipe distance off
  • fan 100%
  • no support needed

My PETG Simplify3D print settings:

  • 3600mm/minute (60mm/second)
  • hotend 215°C | bed 70°C
  • 250 micron | infill 20%
  • 3 top layers | 3 bottom layers | 5 outline layers
  • brass nozzle 0.35mm
  • extrusion width 0.40mm
  • retraction 0.75mm
  • extrusion multiplier 0.95
  • coasting 0.20mm
  • wipe distance off
  • fan 100%
  • no support needed
