3D model description
Ready for the summer? Hmm..you don't know, and could use some advice? I know you're gonna use sunglasses, so i made a sunglasses case for everybody. Modern design for men, women, and teens. This case can protect your lenses from scratches and its arms from bending and breaking. It is also great for protecting your lenses from dirt and residue, keeping them clean. Print it in color, so it can suit whoever you choose to gift it, to making this the perfect gift. And it's totally free! Cause i believe in the opensource community. How nice it is to be able to print something without having to model it yourself. Trust me, i know. So go print this sunglasses case for yourself or maybe that someone special. And you don't have to worry that it will break on your way to the beach. Oof..the beach, when will it be summer again?
3D printing settings
I have printed this object in Ultimaker white PLA. I have printed it with 0.2mm resolution. And 18% infill. I'm using a 0.4mm nozzle and the temperature of my extruder is 210 degrees Celcius. I have used a heated bed (60 degrees Celcius). With this print i'm using a brim to avoid curling up at the bottom of the print.
Sunglasses case.. .featuring the trendy voronoi style. The video provided by layer by layer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kh5jKgsEQak
gives you the oppertunity to learn to design a trendy model. First the base shape is modelled in Fusion 360; than the voronoi pattern is applied in meshmixer. Because i have seen many voronoi 3D models and, find them truly inspirational, i wanted to learn how to create this object by myself.
First i have created a base form in Fusion 360, this way the voronoi pattern can be applied to that basic shape. In Meshmixer the base is deformed from a square- to a triangular-pattern on the outside of the model. This way, more interesting shapes will appear creating the voronoi pattern. Especially by reducing the mesh with small and bigger brushes. If you have trouble with your trianngular count, try reducing or remeshing the model. This feature in meshmixer appears when you select your object (ctrl A), under the edit tap.
Personally i enjoyed watching the video very much. Because of the indepth explained proceedings in creating a voronoi pattern. Well-founded video's like these stay longer in my memory.
For me, taking this project was helpfull. By learning this design-method, i discovered for example it's usefull to apply a plane cut in my models (keeping both shapes). Therefore i could apply the voronoi pattern to just the upper part and, leave the lower part intact. That is critical when you are using a highly-detailed bottom. And after modelling the voronoi pattern, combining it with your basic shape makes an amazing result. When the model is done i use netfabb to fix it.
A Downside is, that it takes significally longer to print these objects ( FFF Printing) But for me it's when i can choose between a fast prop or a slow well end-product.
I hope you enjoy the video!
