Did you 3D print this model?

3D model description

It´s the 3rd functional eye glasses/sunglasses.

This is the model C1 with 150mm width. You will probably need to scale it for matching it to you. Its not a problem since you don't make it smaller than 137mm width, or the hinges will not work. You can scale it in X, Y and Z independently, but it could be a problem for mounting the glasses if the scaling of X, Y and Z are exaggerated.

It has a modern design, edgy (irregular heptagon), kind of nerdy, but also modern. This model was printed in red, later painted in black and again polished so that the black paint on the front is away and a fine red line turns visible again. This area has a slight bulge that makes it easy to sand.

Its an all-in-one printed frame. It means you dont need to assemble the parts of the frame. After printing and removing the support you can just sand/paint and install the glasses.

For this you just bring it to an optician (eye shop) and they will make the glasses with the correct diopter that you need. If you want it as sunglasses, then it is also possible. In Germany it costs as few as 39 Euros or 69 Euros as sunglasses on the internet.

Additionally you can download all other "C" models and they have exactly the same glass form and size. It means that you can print all them and exchange by yourself the glasses later according to the design you like most at the time. Just be aware to use always the same scale factor!

For exchanging the glasses you only have to press the glasses from the backside to the front-side and they will detach from the frame. In order to assemble it, then from the front-side to the backside and you mount them. Be aware that in this procedure the frame can brake after repeating it several times. But as I tested by myself, it broke down only with bad quality printings (porous). If you heat the frame with warm water before, this is easier, but not strictly necessary.

3D printing settings

On these pictures I printed the frame with ABS and water removable support (PVA HT) using 250 and 238°C respectively.

When you import the stl to cura it will come on the correct printing position. You can rotate in Z, but in X and Y it is better to don't rotate, because this position guarantees more resistance.

For around 20€ you can print it in SLS and 50€ the glasses. Printing at home it should cost between 5 and 20€.
