The Moon Puzzle - v2

updated version: higher resolution, integrated numbers

A 240 piece 3D puzzle of our moon based on real elevation data
(a smitch exaggerated for dramatic effect).

Diameter: 200 mm (8 inch)
Print time: days..!
Models: pre-arranged on 4 standard sized build plates (200x200mm) (Update: More build plate configurations can now be generated using the reconfigurator)

A lot of fun to put together and quite challenging without the use of a cheat sheet.

Not to mention that it makes for an eye-catching piece of decor sitting on your desk or on a shelf when it's fully assembled.

3D printing settings

In order to successfully print this model your printer needs to be tuned to produce accurate dimensions and retract reliably without too much oozing.
Before you decide to get the full model I recommend to download the four test pieces, print them out and test the fit. Use them to tune your settings until the pieces interlock with a nice friction fit.

Having said that, I printed mine on an Ender 3 without any tweaks with no problems.

Here are some ballpark settings

Slicer: Cura 3.6.0
Filament: Wanhao PLA 1.75
Layer Height: 0.15mm
Wall thickness: 0.8mm
Top/Bottom thickness: 0.6mm
Infill: 10%
Supports: off (the model comes with supports)
Adhesion: Brim, 2mm

@UHGUES: Hey, it's quite straight forward to pick out a specific piece from one of the plates by using, for example, Meshmixer (free tool, very useful). You load it in, select 'separate shells', then you click on the piece(s) you want and export them out as another stl file. (Make sure you have 'export selection only' active in the preferences). You can also PM me over at facebook and I give you a file that has all the pieces split up into separate files.

Hello !
I have just finish 3D printing the first plate with the 56 first parts of the puzzle. The quality looks fine and I am willing to print the next 3 boards.

However, I had an issue with the printing of the part #7 . The bottom right part was twisted on its support before being connected to the left part. The results is that I have an opening of about 2 mm between the main part and its bottom right corner.

Could you provide the 3D file of this unique part or is there a way to select only one part of the complete plate to avoid printing again the 56 parts for only one with a defect ?
