Derived from letter forms, namely a section of a capitol G and S, this chair shows how form can be generated from letters into sculptural furniture forms. It was a project I did along with a classmate for school.
The goal was to learn how to make things in Rhino, save them as an STL for printing, lay out pieces for laser cutting and milling setup. In the end we had produced 3 models, one for each process.
See the photos for the finished pieces.
Print the STL. It will print fairly well without support but there are a few nasty overhangs. Printing with one extra shell might help support it.
The AI files are for laser cutting 3mm thick material, in my case it was cardboard but you could use various plastics or wood. There is an AI file for milling out of 3/4 birch ply.
I have included the source file for those who are interested.
