This marble portrait (a recent acquisition from the Louvre) is dated to 1736, sculpted by Edme Bouchardon. The portrait depicts Frédéric de La Tour du Pin (1694-1775) who was the Marquis of Gouvernet. The marble, signed and dated 1736, was exhibited for the Salon in 1738; written in the Salon's brochure it was described as "Donned with antique taste". Considered a unique portrait bust by the artist, the sculpture is conisdered as one of the first neoclassic portraits in the history of sculpture. The piece never left the family's studio until it was brought to the public in June 2012, permanently on display at The Louvre, Paris.
