3D model description
The first-order Bodie Island Lighthouse is located in the Outer Banks in the shore line of North Carolina. Surrounded by marshlands, maritime forest and saltwater ponds, this lighthouse is a picture-perfect for photographers and nature lovers.
The current lighthouse was built in 1871. An innovative technique was used for foundation with timber pillings below the ground with an octagonal base of granite blocks on top. The brick tower painted with black and white stripes sits on top and raises 164ft (50m).
This is one of the few lighthouses in the United States with an original first-order Fresnel lens.
Work to restore the lighthouse began in August 2009 and after significant delays, including the hit of Hurricane Irene in August 2011, final works were accomplished by march 2013.
Today, the lighthouse is open to visitors. Check out The Outer Banks
The model was designed using pictures and detailed drawing of the actual building in scale 1/160 (N scale).
You can resize it using your favourite software before print, however, if you do so, some of the parts may lose stability or look over scaled.
Model has 18 different pieces that you need to assembly as any other model kit: I attached an instruction booklet together with the downloaded files. Printing, painting and weathering will give a lot of fun.
Please note that the kit doesn't include roofing for the dwelling house ) part G16 which is to be done with styrene or cardboard 1mm thick.
I included a template in the instructions booklet
This model can be a great addition to your layout or diorama.
Happy modelling!
