A 3D printed igloo made of salt
The American 3D printing company Emerging Objects focuses its research on the development of innovative materials for large format 3D printing. Its two founders, Ronald Rael and San Fratello, are particularly interested in construction and furniture components that can be considered sustainable, inexpensive, solid and recyclable. Their latest full-scale 3D creation was built using salt harvested from the San Francisco Bay Area. It is a 3D printed igloo. Saltygloo is therefore entirely made of 3D printed salt bricks glued together with glue, also made of salt. For both designers, this material is solid, lightweight, inexpensive and translucent, so it is perfect for making this type of structure.
